Highland's Redbuds Celebration of ART

ART à la carte presents the Highlands Redbuds Celebration of ART on Friday, April 8th, from 5-8pm: an evening of gallery hopping on the Historic WestSide of Cookeville, TN. Meet the artists, see their new work, get art, and socialize. In addition to ART à la carte, the galleries participating in this event are Spicer & Co., The Afternoon Gallery and Stranger in the Wilderness Gallery.

ART à la carte, at 121 W Broad, represents over 40 professional and emerging local artists. It exists to support the profession by providing a street-front retail location for exhibiting and selling artwork. The gallery provides the public an opportunity to appreciate and purchase art locally. With top-of-the-line special exhibits throughout the year and other events on a monthly basis, there are numerous occasions to bring artists and patrons together to discuss art and socialize on the WestSide. The one-of-a-kind, collectable artwork ranges from classical to contemporary, whimsical to functional, in a wide variety of media including painting, ceramics, photography, sculpture, metal, wood, fiber, and book art.

Spicer & Company, located next door at 123 W Broad, is the working studio and gallery of Stephen Spicer and apprentice Timothy Mitchell. Spicer specializes in couture jewelry design and creation—each custom piece is lovingly created just for the client. Four other jewelry makers are featured here: Robert Coogan, Sadie Wang, Pam Pate and Kip Kniep. You will also find antique, vintage and exquisitely rare objects at this fine boutique studio.

The Afternoon Gallery is located up the street at 39 W Broad, on the second floor. It is the working studio and gallery of artist, teacher and portrait painter Sandra Bos. She paints full time for her own gallery and to supply the galleries where she is affiliated. Her business is painting. Bos says “pieces of color” has become her personal statement because she feels that is what her paintings are about. She also holds adult and children classes. One of her missions is to educate others about fine art. For more information go to www.sandrabos.com.

Also on the second floor, across the hall at 39 W Broad, is Stranger in the Wilderness Gallery, the working studio and gallery of Valerie Connelly. This multi-talented artist is also an author, entrepreneur, inventor, musician, publisher, radio talk show host, speaker, and world traveler. In 2009 Connelly moved to Cookeville, Tennessee where she has joined the vigorous arts community and continues to paint commissions, illustrate children's books, and create paintings of the natural beauty in Tennessee.
