Redbud Celebration Silent Auction
There are two very special items up for bid at Art à la carte until the end of April.

The second item up for bid is a unique afghan that was hand stitched by The Embroiderers' Guild of America's Iris Chapter of Cookeville. There are six types of redbuds that have been stitched onto the afghan by different members. The embroiderers' Guild of America fosters the highest standards of excellence in the practice of the art of embroidery through the practice of education and study.

This item is a steal as well. The bidding began at $100, although it was valued at $630 by the artists. Bids on this item can be raised in $10 increments.

The first is a one-of-a-kind Brad Sells piece. It was carved with hydraulic chainsaws out of a single piece of wood that came from Cookeville's own Wilson Oak near the corner of Cedar Street and Depot Avenue. While the tree still stands, this piece is sure to bowl you over. Sell's unique sculpting process that begins with chainsaws, moves on to an angle grinder, continues with exhaustive sanding, and ends with the piece being hand rubbed turns out eloquently flowing pieces time and again.

The orbital on this work, and many of his other pieces, represents life on its largest and smallest scales: both a celestial bodies spinning around a star and an electron of an atom.

The vessel being auctioned off is titled "Wilson" and is valued at $2,200. However, the opening bid was $1,000 and can be raised in $100 increments.
